Today

Today I am..
Feeling..rested..The weekend was full of those quiet, lovely times: sunbathing in the grass, weeding out the over-run garden, tea-drinking in the evening, nestling down on the new mattress. My new tattoo is photo ready, the heat has broken, life is surprising me with small gifts and simple joys.
Seeing..my daughter precocious love of teenage rebellion - she's got a thick leather dog collar with grommets draped around her neck: "Yarrow pretty necklace!" she says proudly. Between her sense of style, her home-made tattoos, and her massive crush on Baby Jesus, we've got an adorable little rebel on our hands!
Smelling..Clove, cardamom, and Patchouli incense, peppermint Dr. Bronner's soap, and green growing things
Tasting..coffee with cream and whole wheat scones with butter and the best-ever Strawberry, blueberry jam a friend gave us. It's a huge jar, so I'm planning to stick some of it in a tart with chocolate ganache..if I can avoid spooning it directly into my mouth.
Listening.. to Lori Mckenna sing about disappointing marriages..I don't know why I like all these songs I can't relate to..but I do, I love them, so does Seth..maybe they remind us how good we have it?
Grateful...for a clean house, my whole day is open now that I'm not burdened by weekend mess! I want to do this more often - keep up with things and do a proper clean on Sunday night to start the week in a fresh, beautiful way! I'm planning to spend the rest of the morning outside weeding and planning and dreaming.
Reading.. My newest Simple Things Magazine - there's a recipe for home-made basil ice cream! And a delightful little article that argues for a return to saying Grace before meals! I love it! I'm also reading Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition by Marilyn Shannon. I like her concept of health and good nutrition a lot, and her tone is lovely.
Loving..my new tattoo..it's so comforting to have Rilke's understanding words with me, so thrilling to see them done with so much love and care by an artist who works toward perfection. Thanks John Biswell! (I promise, I'll put up pictures soon, I need Seth to take the photos or they'll end up fuzzy and awful, I know..I tried!)
Hoping.. I'm reading my crows right; that this week follows the weekend well; that the cucumbers continue their abundance (and that I can keep up with them!).

  1. I love those restful summer days!

Cheers on the cucumbers. There's a cucumber vine in my garden... and it's winding down among the tomatoes somewhere. If it actually grows a cucumber, I may never find it. :P

The scents line in this meme is the hardest for me; most of the time, I just don't even know! Your clove and cardamom and incense and things are inspiring. I should work more on getting good scents around my house. 'Course, right now the laundry room smells like garlic and brandy, because we just harvested the garlic and started an apple/brandy infusion. So, there's that!

    3. Ooh..I should do that! For the Book Club..except, we'd have to wait for book 6 to see this sort of potion in action ;)..and I hate waiting! So maybe it'll be a retreat project!
