A word of warning...

While the home-made laundry soap I made (recipe below) works wonderfully, smells lovely, and stores easily, if you make some - and especially if you store it in the kitchen - it does look quite a lot like unbleached white flour. Don't mistake the two, mix them together and attempt to bake with the resulting mixture, it will not bake well. It will taste an awful lot like soap.

I'm learning to bake in the fire, with a dutch oven and lots of hot coals. It takes more focus than I usually have, but I'm hoping that a soap-free bread will bake better and burn less easily. My hope springs eternal, and I have a bowl of dough in the yurt, rising and souring for tomorrow.
