Killing Houseplants

Yurts are not healthy places for plants in the winter. I had every intention of bringing my rubber-tree plant to a friend's for storage while we drove to Michigan, or of bringing it to Michigan with us, when I forgot to give it to the friend. In the rush of packing, the plant was left to die on the shelf above the woodstove. If we spent the winter at home, I could keep the plants warm enough, but when we're gone, the stove is off and the yurt cools to match the outdoors. I don't have to see my rubber-tree to know it's dead, like last year's rubber-tree, like the ferns I always managed to kill in college. I'm done with house-plants until we have a house.
